A road test of the renowned racing track showcased the venue’s exhilarating USP

Some people say that dog owners tend to look like their pets. And after a day at Mercedes-Benz World, I’d suggest the same holds for drivers, who reflect the characteristics of their cars.
The day was centred around driving experiences suited to
teambuilding, or which can be added on to a day of meetings.
First up was a super-sleek and speedy C63 with our driver, Elliot. He lost no time in informing my two colleagues and I that this wasn’t his usual day job – his main gig is as a stunt driver for films such as the Fast & Furious series. Elliot gave us a cheeky wink before whizzing us round the track. Much hydroplaning and many fast turns.
Next we went for an off-road ride with an ex-army chap in a GLE 250. ‘This could be a little bit bumpy,’ he warned. It certainly was, but his level-headed explanations about what we were doing kept us calm.
Then it was time for individual spins in a 300 SL, a racing car from the 1950s with gullwing doors where you can really smell the leather, petrol and horsepower. The driver fitted right in with this classy car, proclaiming, in a suitably posh accent, that he felt as if we were driving down to Goodwood.
Elsewhere we were entertained by stilt-walkers wackily adorned in flowers and greenery, clever AstroTurf decorations and live string music courtesy of the Ember Trio. We lingered in the exhibition area with canapés and champers to watch a stunt display from its floor-to-ceiling windows. Sundowners on the AMG Suite’s terrace rounded things off nicely.
