We ventured into the woods to see what the Lincolnshire youngster had up its sleeve for its hat trick

‘You look like you’ve caught the sun – been somewhere nice?’ I don’t think my colleague was expecting ‘yeah, Lincolnshire’ to come out of my mouth. But two hours in one of Bathing Under the Sky’s wood-fired hot tubs – Moet in hand, caution thrown to the wind – and me and my five companions were baking under the most intense rays of the year. For a DJ-heavy, electro -leaning festival, it seems that Lost Village still attracts those after some R&R with their D&B.
Now in its third year, Lost Village is relatively new to the hospitality game; but that’s not to say there’s not plenty going on if you’re looking to entertain discerning, festival-going clients. We were staying in the on-site Boutique Sanctuary. Set next to the main stage and within easy reach of those bubbling hot tubs, the VIP camping area is full of tipis, deluxe suites and raised woodland lodges. We were booked into one of the Original Bell Tents where a double airbed, welcome bottle of Botanist gin and a mains supply made it the most pleasant festival arrival I’ve ever experienced.
The entertainment lies away from our luxury lodgings. This year’s Tribal Feast banquets were opened by The Typing Room’s Lee Westcott and closed by Hawksmoor. We went for the six-courser from Lyle’s. The cured cod with tomatoes and courgettes was a brave choice for a festival (they pulled it off) but it was the hunk of barbecued Dexter wing rib that set tongues wagging.
Most people, of course, were there for the music. Hot Chip and Erol Alkan were the standout DJ acts of the weekend, while headliners Moderat and De La Soul drew the crowds to the main stage. But it was the immersive aspects of the festival we enjoyed the most. Circus acrobatics in the forest, a secret door that led to an underground bar, and roaming characters brought another level of entertainment to the already diverse offering, with Sunday night’s torch procession on the Lake of Tranquillity bringing the festival to a heady close. Fireworks and espresso martinis? We’ll be back.
