We had a taste of the Yorkshire-based company’s Ribblesdale hamper to see how it would fare as a corporate gift
Looking at the pistachio-green Cartwright & Butler hamper with brown leather straps, we’re instantly transported to a sunny Victorian picnic in the park (minus the parasols). The Yorkshire-inspired sweet and savoury tea-time treats inside are all neatly wrapped in pastel packaging: cheesy crackers, chutneys, teas, coffee, biscuits and mints – this one’s for those with a traditional-leaning palette.
The stand outs
Our across-the-board favourite item was the Gouda Cheesy Melts – quickly heated in the oven, these deceptively light yet punchy bites are made of a macaron-esque outer shell and filled with the melted good stuff . The onion chutney was also a highlight, especially as a dip for the Gouda Cheese Twists or the Olive & Garlic Wheat Flat Bread. The After Dinner Blend Coffee and Time for Tea were also especially good and came delivered in top-quality containers that can be kept and used for later – both handy and a lasting reminder of your generosity.
The hamper is screaming out for something fresh though – some Comte cheese or cured meat would definitively lift it up a notch. We would swap some of the denser products, such as the Cherry and Almond Loaf Cake, the Cheddar Cheese Crumbles or the Butter Oat Crumbles for some chocolate, some wine and a savoury jam.
Value for money
For £100, we think this hamper certainly does the job, although a bottle of wine would be a welcome extra. Saying that, we could forgive them for a larger box of the Gouda Cheesy Melts.
Who to buy it for
This one is for your more traditional, perhaps older, client – we don’t think the trendy millennial would enjoy it as much. Someone who appreciates good-quality coffee would be perfect, and as the theme is overwhelmingly cheesy make sure they like their fromage.
