Crathrone Hall is a hotel and spa in Yarm, North Yorkshire. The house, one of the grandest country residences built in the Edwardian period, was commissioned by James Lionel Dugdale in 1903 and finished three years later on land his family had owned for shooting since 1844. Its 115 rooms, including 41 bedrooms, required 26 live-in servants. James’ son Thomas Dugdale inherited Crathorne from his father, and his distinguished political career meant prime ministers and royalty regularly stayed out the house, including the Queen Mother and Lord Mountbatten. The family left Crathorne Hall in 1977 and it is now operated by Handpicked Hotels.
It’s played host to politicians, royalty and the glitterati since opening in 1906, but Crathorne Hall Hotel now prides itself on an unstarchy approach to hospitality. Set in 15 acres of gardens on the edge of the Yorkshire Moors, it has 37 bedrooms and a fine-dining restaurant. Round the back, the lawn and adjacent terrace are prime breakout spots.
When it comes to meeting and events, the hall is home to a wealth of inspirational settings. Headlining these is the 120-capacity Edwardian Room, complete with its original fireplace, detailed marbling and feature chandelier. The Drawing Room is another spacious option for up to 160 guests. One of its best selling points is the stunning outdoor lawns and terrace spaces which can be used for drinks receptions and alfresco dinners.
You can hire Crathrone Hall exclusively if you wish. This extravagant option offers you and your guests total privacy, allowing you to soak up its unique ambience, while benefitting from highly dedicated service.
