What’s it all about?

Creating a range of mouth-watering beers with their own fresh Devon water. A beer for every occasion, with a little bit of Salcombe in every drop.

How does it taste?

There are 4 core Salcombe ales available all year round in draught and bottle; Devon Amber, Salcombe Gold, Seahorse & Shingle Bay. Seasonal ales accompany these beers throughout the year, including festive Christmas Tide. Salcombe Pale Ale is available on keg or in bottle as part of their craft beer range which also includes Island Street Porter. Salcombe beers range from the classic easy-drinking bitter in Devon Amber to the tasty copper Lifesaver beer which has a smack of citrus and orange peel. Whether you’re looking for a rich, dark, velvety porter or a hoppy golden ale, there’s a Salcombe beer to suit all tastes.

Where can you try it?

Brewery visits are encouraged for a hands-on approach to trying Salcombe beers. Brewery tours offer the chance to tour the Brewhouse, meet the brewers and try the beers in the Brewery’s Taproom, which overlooks the Devon countryside with views towards the estuary. Alternatively, you can book a brew day to make your very own Salcombe beer and, of course, take some home with you. Book online now.

Where can you buy it?

Salcombe beer ‘on the bar’ is available not only locally but increasingly up and down the country in pubs & bars. Independent retailers stock the bottles or you can buy online for home delivery. The Brewery Shop is also open weekly Monday – Friday and seasonally on Saturdays.

Why we love Salcombe Beer

The brewery sits above a decommissioned water reservoir which provides the perfect natural temperature for storing ales as well as a borehole capable of providing the brewery (and beers!) with its very own Devon water – which all fits well with the brewhouse’s strong sustainable aspirations. All Salcombe beers are sealed with the seahorse logo which is representative of the fact that the Salcombe Estuary is home to two of the different species of the British seahorse. Salcombe donate 5p a bottle of Seahorse sold, to The Seahorse Trust to conserve these amazing sea animals and protect their future.

Salcombe Brewery Co was founded by John and Gerry Tiner in September 2016.

The company vision was simple: to create an eco-friendly, locally supportive brewery, making a rich variety of mouthwatering beer. There are 11 ales to try, available in bottle, keg and cask. Salcombe Gold is one of their most popular ales, using Citra, Amarillo and Chinhook hops from the USA, which create a citrus aroma with hints of melon, apricot and peach, and a long, hoppy finish.

The new state of the art brewhouse is a 20-barrel brewery with 4 fermenting vessels, capable of producing 350 x 9G casks per week. It sits on the site of a decommissioned water reservoir and utilises the natural ambient temperature of the underground facility for storing their ales at perfect conditioning temperature. This together with the upcoming installation of solar cells helps make their brewery as energy efficient as possible. The site also has its own borehole which has recently started supply the brewery with its own source of pure Devon water, perfect for ale brewing.
