The Iron Bridge is a cast iron bridge that crosses the River Severn in Shropshire. It was opened in 1781 and was the first major bridge in the whole of the world to be made of cast iron, so it's no surprise that it's a popular attraction for tourists in the area today. It's been thought of as the symbol of the Industrial Revolution because of its historical significance, and contains all the elements of progress that contributed to the rapid development of this region in the 18th century. Today, it's a UNESCO World Heritage Site. In Shropshire County there is much more to do aside from enjoying this iron beauty. And, even further afield you'll find that the county is bordered by Wrexham and Cheshire along with Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Herefordshire is to the south and Powys to the west, so you really are amongst some of the most beautiful countryside in the whole of Britain.
