‘Boma’ is a South African word meaning ‘safe enclosure’, and the owners of this smart neighbourhood bar and restaurant have tried to create a local haven with a global outlook in SW6. Expect a diverse, eclectic menu covering everything from tiger prawns pil-pil, steak tartare or roasted beetroot with baby carrots, soya beans, orange and cumin seeds to Boma burgers, roasted vegetable lasagne, red Thai curry or spring lamb chops with creamed polenta, steamed spinach and minted chimichurri. Desserts might include blackberry crème brûlée as well as Boma ‘crunch’ with ice cream, cracked honeycomb and chocolate shards, while brunch features a hugely popular ‘build your own’ version for a tenner. Hand-picked wines, beers and cocktails covers all bases in the drinks department, and regular live music is an added attraction. Sibling Boma Green serves Parsons Green, and a third outlet is planned for Putney Bridge.
