Tidy and friendly hotel, beats all other hotels in the town in terms of being central and over looking the beautiful Cathedral -with added bonus of having a car park. We will definitely stay here again, and again.

A super bad and unexpected experience

I’ve stayed at this hotel many times in the past, in fact, it’s a place we often use for company events and meetings. However, the most random thing happened to me when I reached to check in, late on Friday 3rd May. Apparently, the manager Antony, had already checked someone in under my name at 9pm that night. I assured Liam and Charlie, who were at the desk that it wasn’t me and that I’m concerned at this. Firstly, the humiliation of not being believed, secondly the wait while constantly checking my ‘story’, the wait when checking who was in the room. There was someone in the room, but they were asleep. Now I appreciate that someone was sleeping but if they’ve been checked into a room I’ve paid for - that should’ve been sorted in my favour. The room I was subsequently given - room 114 - was probably one of the most dated and cold rooms I’ve EVER had at the mecure. Even the heating wouldn’t go on for ages. I expressed my disappointment, and the fact that someone was checked in without any identification or proper checks. Again, not expected from a hotel I’d have thought has a great reputation and privilege spot by the cathedral grounds! Anyway, when I checked out, I expected an explanation. There was none but the lady at reception was aware of the events. The manager was going to contact me, which I wait eagerly for. I already have a booking for 14 June which I will be cancelling if I don’t get a satisfactory response. I do have details of who to contact if I don’t get a response, so I’ll give it a week. When I googled the Mercure Wessex somehow I ended up in an expedia website. It looked like a direct Mercure site, and I booked it as a prepay. I needed to leave a day early and the hotel Manager worked a way to refund the night of the stay I did not need. Very good customer service.

Lovely overnight stay with a welcome drink, 2 course meal, breakfast and 1pm check out off Wowcher for £119. Large privilege room with a free soft drink mini bar! View of the cathedral. House white was a bit roppey! Dirty fries were lush and a massive serving, kat su curry and braised beef were both very tasty and super hot. A bit of a wait for food due to a hockey tour ordering before us, but we were kept up to speed with our meals. Super helpful staff Joe and Sophie in the bar/restaurant. People complained it was a little tired in places but with a large hotel for the location and price, hubby and I loved it.

I’m so glad that you had an enjoyable time during your stay at The Mercure Hotel Winchester Wessex. I hope we can welcome you back to the property in the near future.
