Selasi from GBBO has launched a new afternoon tea in Mayfair

Former Great British Bake Off star Selasi Gbormittah has launched a limited-edition afternoon tea in collaboration with a top London restaurant.

Selasi’s afternoon tea can be found at Great British Restaurant, which is housed inside Mayfair’s DUKES LONDON, the world-famous hotel that is home to the legendary DUKES BAR. The afternoon tea has been designed by both Selasi and Great British Restaurant’s head chef Nigel Mendham, and celebrates British Food Fortnight, an annual celebration of British food and drink which runs from 21 September to 6 October.

So, what can you expect from the afternoon tea? Well, proceedings will begin with a selection of finger sandwiches, served with classic fillings such as London-cured smoked salmon with dill cream cheese, or perhaps free-range egg mayonnaise with autumn truffle and watercress.

Following on from the savouries, you’ll enjoy a helping of freshly-baked plain or raisin-studded scones, which can be smeared in strawberry jam and clotted cream. The afternoon tea is rounded off with a range of sweet treats, which employ some of Selasi’s signature flavour combinations – think chocolate clusters with orange cream and chocolate feuilletine, and a fig and almond tart with spiced almond cream, toasted almonds and a honey glaze.

While scoffing on scones and the like, you’ll be able to choose from a selection of loose-leaf teas and infusions to sip on. There is also the option to upgrade your afternoon tea to a more glamorous affair, by adding a glass of Champagne per person.

Selasi first rose to fame on the 2016 series of The Great British Bake Off. He became something of a heartthrob among fans because of his winning smile and charm, and managed to make it all the way to the semi-finals.

Selasi’s signature afternoon tea is available at Great British Restaurant now until 6 October 2019. The tea is served daily between 12-6pm and is priced at £35 per person, or £45 with a glass of Champagne.
