Tampopo’s new restaurant in the Corn Exchange specialises in street food and signature dishes from across eastern Asia, offering a selection of small plates – ideal for sharing with a beer from Japan, Singapore or Laos – alongside main courses. Japanese-style sticky wings with a sweet soy and chilli glaze were crisp and crunchy, while rendang roti bites provided bite-size morsels of tender Malaysian slow-cooked beef with hints of coconut, chilli, galangal and lemongrass. Thai red curry with duck was hot, rich and fragrant with lychees, Thai basil and lime leaf. We were also impressed by the ice cream selection, including creamy green tea, warming cinnamon and a beautifully nutty black-sesame flavour. The drinks menu includes a small but solid selection of cocktails alongside fragrant teas and traditional Vietnamese coffee with condensed milk. With its colourful interior, outside terrace, and good-value express lunch menu, Tampopo makes a welcome addition to Exchange Square.
