There are no prizes for guessing the main attraction at this highly popular, bistro-style seafood restaurant in the heart of Edinburgh city centre. That’s right – kilo pots of rope-grown Scottish mussels served every which way from Moroccan, Mexican or hot-and-sour to a classic version with leeks, Dijon mustard and cream. The allcomers’ menu also majors on native oysters and scallops, plus the odd more ambitious dish such as grilled sea bass on chorizo and butterbean cassoulet with salsa verde. There are also a few concessions to meat eaters and veggies in the shape of Aberdeen Angus burgers, grilled goats’ cheese baguettes and so on. For afters, why not ratchet up the calories with pear cheesecake or sticky toffee pudding? The food is supported by a decent choice of fish-friendly wines. Note that there are plans to update the menu in line with The Mussel Inn in Glasgow.
