About
Looking for a new spin on the Indian street-food fad, this funky East End canteen majors on roti rolls and wraps with all manner of fillings – from chicken tikka and 18-hour braised lamb to tandoori paneer with pickling spices. The kitchen keeps it brief and simple at lunchtime, with a handful of rolls, biryanis, curry bowls and a few sides. In the evening and at weekends, the menu is fleshed out with lots more curries and tandooris, plus sharing plates and nibbles ranging from chicken lollipops to samosas and aloo papri chaat. Drink ‘soft’ (mango lassi, mint tea) or ‘hard’ (Kingfisher beer, gluggable wine or bubbly). The decor is custom-built for local hipsters – expect long communal tables and box seats, with a big display counter, panels of corrugated iron and the word KARMA writ large on one wall.
