SquareMeal Review of High Road Brasserie

Bronze Award

A row of west London townhouses makes a good home for this animated brasserie where everything from breakfast through to late dinner is provided, not to mention a Champagne cocktail or two. There’s an art-deco spin to the interior with its banquette seating and spectacularly colourful floor tiles, which all makes an energetic space for an English breakfast or a croque monsieur, before the all-day menu kicks in with sandwiches, salads and hot food such as pumpkin risotto or pork belly with crackling and apple slaw. Steak frites is a speciality, and there are “great” Saturday brunches and “superb” Sunday lunches, rounded off by the comfort of a plum crumble, perhaps. Drink draught Chiswick Bitter or European lager, or perhaps something from the short, well-rounded wine list. With “fab service”, terrace tables and a laid-back vibe, HRB is the complete neighbourhood package.

I work in Chiswick, and this is such a cute place to come to. I have had breakfast a fair few times (on my own), where it was pretty bog standard, it did take a long time to come to me. I would recommend this place definately, but still beware of the time it takes for your breakfast/ lunch/dinner to come to you. If you are in a rush, avoid like anything!

This was my third and final time there. Matradee completely messed up out booking. It was a special occasion and asked for a particular / special table. Not only did we not get tge requested table they gave us the worst possible table tucked behind a big group of noisy people, on one side toilets and on the other side kitchen. Despite this they did not offer any curtesy drinks or even an attentive service. Main course took half an hour to come and when it came the steaks was over done. By then we were so hungry we drcided not to send them back. We sat with our empty cocktail glasses and again for no service for quite dome time. And finally when we get the bill they have included 12.5% service charge (diversionary ). Haha. Here is an institution a restaurant who really does not give a damn about delivering their best. Bad food bad service and expensive for what it is. I know they won't care about seeing me there again. Matradee and manager you should both be sent back to hospitality school

I ate there on Sat 8th Nov and was seated facing the open kitchen and witnessed the chefs eating food with their hands and one of them dribbled out whatever he had eaten down his chin. My friends and I were shocked and revolted by this. The matre 'd saw my face and asked me what was wrong and I told him. He had a word with one of the chefs and they visibly whispered about it in the kitchen and looked over to our table. It was very intimidating. They were totally unprofessional and clearly had zero respect for their jobs, the food or the customers. We felt it made a total mockery of the up-market image the restaurant tries to portray and the accompanyingly high prices they justify.
