Dreamed up by entrepreneur and meat-free crusader Jessica Kruger, Ethos aims to offer casual, self-service vegetarian food to shoppers, office workers and tourists mingling around Oxford Street. Eclectic global food is the deal, with a menu that could take in anything from Hyderabadi Scotch eggs and Thai corn fritters to Colombian crema de aguacate (avocado) soup and loubieh (Lebanese green bean and tomato salad) – plus hearty Tuscan stews and sweet treats including indulgent ‘cake balls’ and Dutch-inspired gevulde speculass cookies. Juices, cocktails, wines and specialty teas satisfy the collective thirst. As for the decor, expect floor-to-ceiling windows, planted birch trees and neutral tones with blue and gold accents, plus a fine-weather alfresco space.
