About

If you haven't heard of the Bright Courtyard Club, where have you been? This Mayfair stalwart opened back in 2010, but is part of the Shanghai Life Fashion Group whose first venue opened in 1997 and now runs various hospitality venues in East Asia focused on a concept of style, innovation and quality.

The London branch has a prime spot in the landmark building 55 Baker Street, in one of the capital's busiest areas. Here, you'll find a contemporary Chinese restaurant that's rooted in tradition, serving Cantonese cuisine such as dim sum, in a classically 'grazing-style' environment. The design of the restaurant brings together the past and present with contemporary installations and a minimalist feel, as well as traditional artworks.

The food offering spans several menus, starting with the extensive and varied a la carte. Expect appetisers of dim sum with spicy jelly fish, mini spare ribs Shanghai-style and fresh Scottish diver-caught scallops. Next up, is entrees with a selection such as golden squid in salty egg yolk, Wasabi king prawns and salt and pepper asparagus.

For mains, there's an impressive selection of seafood including lobster which can be served wok-braised with ginger and spring onions, oven-baked with butter and cheese or steamed with Chinese wine. Similarly, the fish selection spans baked Chilean sea bass in blackpepper sauce, braised hairtail rainbow fish and filleted dover sole, amongst much more. Within the meat section, we particularly like the sound of grandma's braised pork belly and ‘Kung Pao’ chicken with Cashew nuts.

Whether planning to enjoy a couple of snacks and premium cocktails before your meal, or simply looking for somewhere to relax, socialise and have a light bite, the lounge is an ideal spot for bringing friends or colleagues. Nibbles include the likes of chilled barbecued cuttlefish and the dim sum basket, while the cocktails sound utterly delicious. On the signature cocktail list you'll find, for example, the Alice in Wonderland, with muddled slices of fresh pineapple, pear and cardamon pods with wyborowa vodka, sprinkled with muscavado sugar, which we'd wager is worth a try.

Chinese New Year booking

Haphazard service and the write up of cocktail bar inaccurate, I was looking forward to the Alice in Wonderland drink but it did not exist, there were no cocktails. Despite having a reservation we were taken out of the main restaurant and made to sit on a wobbly plastic trestle table & uncomfortable chairs in a shopping mall courtyard. Our waiter was unable to explain how best to order from the menu. Eg how many starters / mains. Fortunately the food was good and our waiter punctual in bringing the dishes over. The pricing reflected the good quality of the food but not the poor surroundings we were sat in.

Horrible services

Horrible services with INSANE wait time. Was seated at 7 and waited for almost an hour to get our first dishes (which we also pre-ordered EVERYTHING) even we asked what happened a couple times already. It’s a shame cause food’s actually decently cooked but we would definitely not risk coming back again.

We have been eating at this restaurant for a long time and it has consistently delivered high quality Chinese food with dishes created in Shanghai which are innovative and fresh. More recently the focus on live seafood has been a positive move to new menus.

good Chinese restaurant
Very comfortable environment. The service is much better than most of the Chinese restaurant. Food quality is good. It will be excellent if more variety is available.

One of the best in London
We visit most of the top Chinese restaurants in London and have concluded that Bright Courtyard provides the most consistently high quality food with generally attentive service in the Capital. the weakest area is the neutral décor and occasional misunderstandings from Shanghai.

Baker Street Chinese
Usually quite a popular restaurant. iPads instead of menus. Good food. Front desk service should improve significantly. Big restaurant.

My wife had been here for a friend's birthday midweek at lunch and had a lovely meal so we went with friends on a Saturday evening. Given this is a reasonably expense restaurant we had high standards but hard to imagine how it could have been worse. Firstly they didn't have enough menus, one iPad although they eventually found a couple of paper menus. The food was ok (at best), a couple of dishes were cold. We sent one back and the same portion came back microwaved so we didn't send the other one back. Having received half our starters we then had to wait half an hour for the rest of starter, so having arrived at 8.30 it was after 10 before we had been served all starters. Then they tried clearing the plates before we were finished and the waitress was rude to my wife . When we told the manager he desciplined her at our table in front of us!! We didn't have a main course as was too late so left hungrey. Will definitely not be going back.
