You'll recognise the name Shakespeare as possibly the world's greatest playwright. William Shakespeare of Stratford-upon-Avon lived in a very different world to ours today, but was ahead of his time, working to change the English language through the plays he wrote. Shakespeare is the name behind Macbeth, Romeo and Juliet and A Midsummer Night’s Dream, but although he died over 500 years ago, he has left behind an incredible legacy. The Royal Shakespeare Company is a major British theatre company that is located in Shakespeare’s birthplace, and puts on hundreds of events and performances across the country each year.
