Can these workshops help you attract, recruit and develop your staff?
There is no denying that Brexit has caused employment challenges in the meetings and events industry, with a diminishing talent pool. So how can you be a more attractive employer, both in terms of being more compassionate to existing staff and attracting new potential?

This is the aim of the three workshops the Meetings Industry Association (mia) will be organising between September and November at the QEII Centre. Roffey Park, the leadership and research institute, will head up the day-time workshops named Meeting the Talent Challenge. Tickets are £175pp for mia members, or £250pp for non-members – get them here

The first one, Retaining talent through a compassionate culture, will kick off 18 September. It will focus on how senior leaders can build a compassionate workplace culture that supports productivity. Expect insightful advice and practical tips.

The second workshop, on 1 November, will be headed up by Roffey Park’s head of research, Dan Lucy. He will explore how the industry can successfully attract, recruit, retain and develop your staff in the session Best practice in talent management. He will return on 28 November to tackle the subject of resilience in the face of challenge during the workshop Building personal, team and organisational resilience in times of change.

Why is this important for your business? Research undertaken by the mia and Roffey Park last year on the topic of mental health in the industry had some eye-opening results. It found that 75% of people asked had, at some stage, been managed by someone who, in their view, lacked compassion. A similar number (78%) claimed they had seen others miss opportunities for compassion because it wasn’t seen as part of their job.

If you want to change this, these workshops can be a step in the right direction.
