Whisky Blazer

Whisky Blazer
5 mins preparation,

This is a twist on a Blue Blazer, a drink that was devised by noted 19th-century American bartender Jerry Thomas. Thomas wrote the first drinks book to be published in the US called How to Mix Drinks, and did a great deal of work to popularise cocktails. He used to light the drink and throw it between two pewter mugs from a great height. This recipe is a slightly safer option.

Ingredients

50ml Dewar's 12 Year Old Blended Whisky
50ml boiling water
1.5 tsp sugar syrup*

Method

1

Glass: Brandy balloon

2

Measure the whisky into the glass

3

Place the balloon glass over a rocks glass filled with hot water, so that the balloon gets warmed from below.

4

Carefully take a lighter and ignite the edge of the whisky and let the liquid burn.

5

Stand the glass upright, pour in the water to extinguish the remaining flames, add the sugar syrup and stir

6

Garnish with a small cinnamon stick and some berries if you like

7

*Add equal parts granulated sugar and boiling water, and stir until the sugar has dissolved
