Cowdray is a beautiful, rural estate in West Sussex which spans everything from a championship golf course, fly-fishing, riding and of course Polo to the award-winning Cowdray Farm shop, and includes a host of options for events and stays. The colourful wall garden is perfect for hosting an idyllic wedding day. Now, it's important to note that there are several options when getting married at Cowdray, with the estate's main house playing backdrop to many an 'I do'. But, for a rural, rustic and gorgeously country affair, the walled garden is where it's at.
This stunning garden dates back to 1550 and is home to manicured lawns and the Cowdray Ruins, which make a dramatic backdrop for your big day and those all-important pictures. You can get married here, outside, and enjoy drinks and nibbles on the grass with your loved ones, but there's space inside, too. The Castle Room, for example, gets its name thanks to its views of the ruins and can accomodate 100 guests for a sit-down dinner, and 130 for dancing afterwards. Then, there's The Courtyard Room, which works well for both ceremonies or receptions and has a light, airy feel with features like exposed brick.
In terms of getting ready and staying on-site, you're welcome to book accommodation on the estate with options from smaller bungalow style self-catering cottages through to luxury lodges and tree house retreats. This way, you'll be right in the heart of the action from the minute you wake up, and you can all enjoy some food and drinks the night before, too. If you're planning on arriving the morning of your event, then the dressing room at the walled garden is ready and at your service from 9am. Here, you'll find there's everything you need to get pampered from long mirrors to space for hair and make-up artists.
